Ethiopia Customs Orders Importer–Broker Representation to Be Registered Through Authorized Agency

The Ethiopia Customs Commission has issued a formal directive regulating representation between importers and customs brokers during customs clearance. The Commission stated that many existing representations are unregistered and unverified by authorized government bodies, with some importers not appearing in person and the authenticity of tax collection stamps unclear.

According to the Commission, these practices hinder efforts to address trade-related fraud. It directed that all importer–broker representation must be processed through the Document Verification and Registration Agency and informed the Customs Brokers Association to enforce compliance and disciplinary measures.
